Acute dizziness in rural practice: Proposal of a diagnostic procedure

    Get PDF
Acute dizziness is a frequent index symptom in the emergency department as well as in the rural practice office. Most acute dizziness, however, is not dangerous, but some types are highly dangerous. Clinical routine acute dizziness can be separated into frequent benign syndromes including benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), vestibular neuritis, Meniθre's disease or vestibular migraine, and what is here referred to as the «white shark» of dizziness, i.e. a stroke in the posterior circulation or more rarely a tumor in the posterior fossa. A practical concept is presented to clarify most frequent acute dizziness syndromes using clinical and low budget methods

Optička svojstva tankih slojeva bismut sulfida Bi2S3

Thin films of bismuth sulfide (Bi2S3) were grown by two deposition techniques, by thermal evaporation and by chemical deposition. The thermally deposited reactions consisted in depositing the individual elements, namely bismuth and sulfur, sequentially from a tungsten boat source and allowing the layers to interdiffuse to form the compound during the heat-treatment. The chemical deposition was based on the reaction between the triethanolamine compex of Bi3+ ions and thiourea in basic media. Scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction analysis were made on as-deposited and on annealed films to determine their structure. The different electronic transitions and the optical constants are determined from the transmision and reflection data of these thin films for normal incidence. The optical gaps of Bi2S3 films show a remarkable dependence on the preparation method.

Complete right- and left-sided thoracic ducts associated with aberrant left vertebral artery: unreported case with surgical implications

    Get PDF
Anatomy is the keystone to an appropriate understanding of surgical and radiological sciences. Here the authors report on a rare case of complete right- and left-sided thoracic ducts (TDs) associated with aberrant left-vertebral artery (LVA) arising from the aortic arch. The TDs originated from right and left cisterna chyli and terminated separately close to the left venous angle. Superior to the aortic arch, the TDs showed different relationships to the LVA; the right TD was ventral, while the left was dorsal in position. This report is associated with other variations detailed below, and may have important implications in cervicothoracic surgery. (Folia Morphol 2018; 77, 1: 156–160)
